Contents Restoration
We understand that some things can’t be replaced, that’s why we offer full contents restoration services. Our services use the latest technology to manage content cleaning, restoration, and inventory management.
Restoring Memories – Expert Contents Restoration.
When a fire, flood or sewer backup hits a Central Alberta home, the building is only half the job. Clothing, furniture, photos, documents and electronics often hold the most value, and much of it can be cleaned instead of replaced. DKI Central Alberta restores contents for homes and businesses in Red Deer and across Central Alberta: we photograph and inventory what’s affected, pack out what needs off-site cleaning, clean and deodorize it, and return it when your home is ready.
Restoring instead of replacing usually costs less, keeps sentimental items in the family and sends less to the landfill. Anything that can’t be saved is documented for your insurance claim so nothing gets missed.

Contents restoration for Central Alberta homes and businesses
Most of the contents losses we handle around Red Deer start one of three ways: a basement flood or sewer backup that soaks the boxes, seasonal gear and photos stored downstairs; a kitchen, furnace or chimney fire that leaves soot and smoke odour in every closet; or wildfire smoke that drifts in during a bad fire season and settles into clothing, bedding and furnace filters.
Each needs a different approach. Water-damaged items have to be dried or stabilized before mould sets in, while smoke-damaged fabrics need soot removed and odour neutralized, not covered up. If you’re dealing with the building itself, see our water damage and fire and smoke damage services.
How the contents process works:
Photos and a room-by-room inventory for your adjuster
Pack-out of affected items
Cleaning, deodorizing and drying
Documents and photographs handled with care
Pack-back once your home is ready
Contents restoration questions
Can smoke-damaged clothes be saved?
Usually, yes. Most clothing, bedding and curtains can be cleaned and deodorized if they’re handled before soot and odour set in. Items that melted, scorched or were soaked with fire-suppression chemicals are often a write-off. Our guide on getting smoke smell out of clothes covers what you can try at home first.
What should I do with wet photos and documents?
Don’t try to pull apart photos that are stuck together, and don’t leave wet paper sitting in a warm room. Keep it cool and flat, or seal it in a bag and freeze it to slow mould until it can be dried properly. Tell us about important papers when you call so they’re handled first.
Does home insurance cover contents restoration?
Contents are normally covered under the same home or business policy as the building when the loss is from an insured event such as a fire or burst pipe. Cleaning an item is usually cheaper than replacing it, so insurers often prefer restoration. Check your policy and keep every item on the inventory list. Our insurance claims guide has more tips.
How long will my belongings be gone?
It depends on the size of the loss and how long the repairs to your home take. Items you need right away, like work clothes, medication or a child’s favourite things, can be prioritized. Everything else stays inventoried with us until your home is ready to move back into.
